Position Summary:

 

Reporting to the Senior VP, Supply Chain, the Planning Manager, Turkey is responsible for forecasting, planning and scheduling activities related to the primary processing of turkey in the three Sofina turkey slaughter plants.  Provides information to various departments within Sofina to support execution of business goals.  Reports to various leaders on matters related to overall activity within turkey business.  Acts as link between live supply, plant operations, and commercial.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Forecast and schedule meat flow for cut-up and whole bird turkey to optimize plant operations and sales, including the flow of mature chicken (fowl) through all plants;
  • Facilitate flow of meat between all primary plants as well as flow from primary processing to further processing; ensuring sufficient raw materials required are available to support RTE production forecast;
  • Maintain and update models required to support forecasting, scheduling, and supplying raw materials where required;
  • Model high level product flow and requirements for turkey, communicate this information as required to leadership, supply chain, primary plant operations, further processed plant raw materials purchasing, sales leadership including commodity & export sales, as well as any ad hoc users of information pertaining to primary turkey at Sofina;
  • Collaborate and coordinate cross functional solutions to issues that arise within turkey business at Sofina, ensuring certainty of supply and no disruption to service levels;
  • Plan activity at primary turkey plants within parameters of live supply to ensure supply of retail business (tray pack), further processed raw materials and various specialty turkey items for retail & food service businesses (roasts, specialty food service packs, etc.);
  • Plan and track production of whole bagged turkey products and in conjunction with sales leadership to optimize sales of whole turkey items with goal of maximizing fresh whole bird sales and minimizing inventory of frozen whole turkeys;
  • In conjunction with commodity sales group, manage export sales activity to ensure export regrow credits required for live supply requested are attained each control period;
  • Manage flow of raw materials from primary turkey plants to further processed plants and where necessary, between primary turkey plants to support business requirements (i.e. movement of raw materials for tray pack);
  • Communicate available commodity and whole bird product available to sales team; manage safety stock of items required for internal use;
  • Provide forecasts of packaging and label requirements for business as required;
  • Provide information on business to external agencies such as CPEP and Statistics Canada;

 

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree is science, supply chain or an equivalent combination of experience and training
  • 4 - 6 years’ experience in a progressively Planning role in food industry;
  • Working knowledge of primary poultry processing (ideally turkey) as well as uses for the various outputs of those plants;
  • Ability to work with various parts of organization and aligning the unique needs of each;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong coordination and communication skills;
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
