Warehouse and Materials Manager

Job Summary:

The Warehouse and Materials Manager is responsible to oversee and co-ordinate the daily activities of the warehouse (i.e. inbound/outbound logistics, material movement, cycle counts, etc.) and the allocation / assignment of materials and warehouse personnel to support the achievement of key business KPI’s and objectives, in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

SAFETY / POLICIES

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety and an injury-free environment through own actions and team mentoring
  • Maintain 5S standards and ensure employees are performing tasks safely and in accordance with Airia policies and any applicable legislation
  • Communicate and ensure the effective implementation and adherence to all Airia Policies

MATERIALS MOVEMENT

  • Ensure accurate material movement into and out of the warehouse in a safe and efficient manner
  • Receive and store material in a prompt and efficient manner
  • Deliver materials required by manufacturing in a timely fashion - avoid interruptions to production
  • Ensure the timely, efficient, and cost-effective shipping of product to customers
  • Maintain accurate shipping documentation and receipts; enter relevant data into ERP system and generate reports, as required
  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of the materials and warehouse activities

INVENTORY ACCURACY

  • Conduct regular cycle counts; determine cause and implement permanent corrective actions for any discrepancies to support the achievement of the inventory accuracy target – not including raw metal
  • Maintain an effective warehouse layout to maximize efficiency and ensure that material FIFO is maintained; maximize the use of the warehouse space
  • Conduct vendor audits to ensure inbound material from suppliers is accurate
  • Lead plant-wide inventory counts in conjunction with the Finance team

LABOUR PLANNING/MANAGEMENT

  • Plan and maintain staffing levels and shift schedules to achieve plant objective and budgets
  • Participates in the recruiting process of new employees including interviews, hiring, and orientation
  • Directly supervise staff and perform daily work audits, prepare regular inventory reports and analyses as required
  • Monitor and maintain up to date computer records for payroll
  • Provide regular coaching, performance feedback and effective training to staff for skill development, growth, and performance improvement to encourage and support a high-performance work culture
  • Administer disciplinary action, as may be required

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • Demonstrate continuous improvement in areas of responsibility by reducing process waste/NVA, increasing warehouse density and establish new or adjust existing procedures and practices
  • Improve warehouse and materials movement practices to create a more efficient and cost-effective order fulfillment process

MISC / OTHER

  • Manage budgets and ensure company goals are achieved
  • Communicate and co-ordinate activities with other departments
  • Maintain up to date Customs and Tariff classifications
  • Maintain forklift, reach truck, electric pump trucks with daily checks and scheduled service
  • Monitor docks and dock doors for repairs and maintenance
  • Schedule truck service and monitor the upkeep of vehicle
  • Monitor daily sales output with shipping team
  • All other duties assigned

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related position
  • Completion of post-secondary education in manufacturing or production management or equivalent experience in warehouse management
  • Must have a thorough understanding of lean manufacturing, warehouse and order fulfillment processes
  • Must have strong communication, along with good reading, writing, computational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be computer literate and have good working knowledge of MS Office products, ERP systems, internet, etc. and other office equipment
  • Must have good communication, interpersonal and management skills
  • Must be able to resolve operational and people problems in a courteous and discrete manner;
  • Must be tactful and use good judgement in dealing with people in general
  • Must be knowledgeable of proper safety standards and procedures and be proficient in the safe operation of machines and equipment – specifically fork lifts
  • Must be versatile and be able and willing to perform unrelated tasks as assigned
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Prior experience with third party logistics companies and logistics providers
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain and inventory management
