Job Description

Summary
The CNC Machinist B operates and monitors CNC machining centers to support the on-time production of powertrain and light metals components. Working closely with the Value Stream Leader and Value Stream Manager, this role runs the production line safely, maintains a strong quality focus, and follows standard work and work instructions to meet daily production targets.


This position may also be asked to support other machines and departments, including Quality, as production needs require.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate machining centers with a basic working knowledge of computer commands across all departments.
  • Pre-set tools, change tool offsets, and load tools into the tool magazine.
  • Check, gauge, and analyze parts for conformance to inspection standards, making necessary work offset adjustments to bring parts into specification.
  • Search programs for the desired tool when performing a restart, and start the program at the correct tool.
  • Move machines in manual mode for recovery purposes.
  • Make machining adjustments to accommodate casting and forging variations.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of tooling and recognize when tools require changing.
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and apply strong problem-solving skills to minimize downtime.
  • Apply working knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and related costs.
  • Follow all applicable safety standards, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and maintain 5S standards in the work area.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 (one) year of manufacturing experience.
  • Previous experience working with machining equipment or in a similar production environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work shift work and in hot temperature conditions.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Knowledge of 5S principles and basic computer skills for inputting data.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic machine issues.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within an automotive or high-volume production setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of CNC machines and tooling.
