Fanshawe College is one of Ontario’s largest and most dynamic post-secondary institutions, with campuses located across four counties. As an HVAC Technician, you’ll be part of a team that ensures our facilities run efficiently and comfortably for students and staff.

Support Staff employees, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.

Payband: This position is paid at Payband I.

Hours: 40 hours per week; Rotation of 2 weeks of Afternoons and 4 weeks of Days

Day Shift: Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Afternoon Shift: Monday to Thursday 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Fridays 1p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Manager, the incumbent provides rapid response to environmental temperature complaints and HVAC/Refrigeration system breakdowns. Installs and maintains refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating systems.

Key Responsibilities


  • Maintain and Repair HVAC Systems: Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems up to 400,000 BTU to ensure optimal performance and comfort across campus facilities.
  • Respond to Environmental Concerns: Provide rapid response to temperature-related complaints from students and staff, helping maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment.
  • Optimize Building Automation Systems: Program and adjust building automation systems to support energy conservation and efficient climate control.
  • Support Campus Projects: Prepare equipment layouts, estimates, and schedules for HVAC installations and upgrades. Inspect new installations to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
  • Emergency Response: Contribute HVAC expertise as a member of the Emergency Response Team, assisting during fire and other urgent situations.
  • Collaborate Across Trades: Work alongside other tradespeople and contractors, offering technical guidance and support to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Promote Safety and Compliance: Ensure all work meets Ontario Building Codes, Fire Codes, and safety regulations, contributing to Fanshawe’s commitment to a clean and safe campus environment.
     
Qualifications
 
  • Certified and maintain registration with Ontario College of Trades Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A) Program (or Provincial/Territorial equivalent with Red Seal Endorsement (RSE))
  • Certified and maintain registration as a Gas Technician 2 (G2) as recognized by Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA)
  • Ozone Depletion Prevention certificate
  • Minimum 5 years recent experience in industrial and/or commercial refrigeration, air-conditioning, heating and building automation systems to enable independent exercise of technical skills
  • Valid Ontario G Driver's license and ability to travel between Fanshawe locations
  • Proficiency with computer and mobile technology related to managing work orders, building automation systems and safety procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to organize and prioritize work
