We are seeking a salaried Payroll Team Lead who is aspiring to reach their potential in the field of construction, reporting to the Senior Manager, People and Culture. As the Payroll Team Lead you will provide assistance and answer questions, check and process payroll. You will work as a cross functional member of the People and Culture team.
Environment
While supporting a construction environment you will be working within an office environment. You may be required on occasion to visit construction sites. You will have the ability to work the occasional evenings and weekends. Your support may be required outside of normal work hours.
How you will make an IMPACT
- Process Payroll for hourly staff on a weekly basis using ERP system
- Union agreements administration and ensuring payroll is executed in accordance with the agreements
- Assist in the reconciliation of payroll journal entries for all assigned companies
- Prepare and file the year-end T4s and tax slips
- Prepare and file employee change of status documentation
- Prepare and file government remittances
- Process RRSPs and answer any internal or external questions that may arise
- Assist in auditing payroll, RRSP, and benefits
- Provide administrative support to the People and Culture department
- Process WSIB claims and work with managers to support employees RTW
- Providing supporting documentation on all WSIB
- Monthly reporting on benefit and RRSP, in conjunction with H&S lost time and any other reporting requirements
- Enroll new employees in all benefit programs within required timeframes
- Assist in ensuring HRIS matches payroll system
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies, programs, and procedures
- Assist with maintaining accurate and comprehensive personnel records using the HRIS
- Assist in the recruitment and selection process
- Assist with keeping job descriptions current
- Draft general forms, letters, reports, and memos as required
- Locate filed materials upon request, ensuring materials are given only to authorized parties
- Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data such as hires, transfers, performance appraisals, and absenteeism rates
- Assist with internal and external training initiatives
- Adhere to all applicable federal and provincial regulations and company policies
- Cross train and help where required
- Assist in event planning projects
- Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required
How you WOW us
- A University or College Diploma, preferably in business accounting, payroll, or a related field
- 100+ employee payroll process experience in a union environment is mandatory
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in a payroll role
- Experience with Maestro Payroll System is an asset
- Experience with supporting a People and Culture team
- Strong interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written
- Excellent organizational, analytical skills, and detail oriented
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Experience with using a HRIS system (BambooHR experience would be an asset)
- Can adhere to the strictest confidentiality requirements
- Experience in union relations would be an asset
- Strong work ethic
