Material Planner - Raw Material Purchasing
POSITION PURPOSE
In this position, you are responsible for planning and monitoring the materials and products used by Ursa, you ensure that the company doesn't run out of the materials needed to produce its products. You also manage the flow of inventory and make sure products are accruately shipped to customers. Using customer information, you help to set up a schedule for ordering materials and maintaining an efficient inventory.

- Dayshift – core week is M-F 7:00-3:30

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning
- Update manual customer releases, service releases, and EDI in MRP system
- Create the press schedule and monitor adherence to schedule
- Develop contingency plans to ensure the ability to meet customer demands
- Follow up on and expedite supplier deliveries
- Monitor and track material flow to identify bottlenecks and propose solutions
- Coordinate engineering changes from release to press through production and packaging
- Perform cycle counts and maintain inventory accuracy in the system
- Reconcile inventory discrepancies in the system as well as in customer EDI
- Manage build ahead inventories to support scheduled maintenance or supplier downtime
- Participate in interdepartmental cross training
- Manage scrap
- Other duties as required
Purchasing
- Locate new sources of supply as required for materials, e-coat, plating, and stamping
- Visit and evaluate suppliers according to; on-time delivery, internal processes, and capabilities and capacity for new business
- Send out RFQ’s for parts and negotiate competitive pricing
- Schedule component and raw steel deliveries to optimize inventory levels and support the production schedules
- Monitor supplier performance by gathering data and producing reports
- Receiving and labelling of steel coils
- Reconciling receiving discrepancies
- Initiating part setup in Plex
- AIGI surveys
- Set up credit applications
- Obsolete inventory reconciliation
- Order trial material for potential new business
Communication
- Work with production management to clearly communicate customer requirements
- Be adept at working both independently and as part of a team
- Escalate issues to management in a timely manner
Education
- Post-secondary accreditation preferably in supply chain management or purchasing
- Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
PHYSICIAL AND ENVIRONMENT
Combination of walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching and sitting for entire shift
Travel; valid driver’s license and passport to travel outside of Canada
Moderate too high stress environment; concrete floors, metal parts.
Office environment; use of computer, printers, faxes, monitors and various software
Wear prescribed safety gear/PPE at all times.
