Principal Engineer/Specialist, Safety Engineering
 

Position Description:

Position:  Principal Engineer/Specialist, Safety Engineering – P57

 Key Job Elements:

  • Lead ED&T compliance with Safety standards such as MIL-STD-882 and ISO 26262
  • Maintain and keep up to date, the engineering safety engineering processes in accordance with evolving standards and ensure that alignment with IPS is maintained
  • Oversee the development of Bids and Proposals/BOEs based on SOW, System Specification Requirements, and Assumptions flowed down from Program Office and/or Project Engineering
  • Participate in Peer Reviews, Check Point Reviews, and Design Reviews to ensure products of optimum design, quality and safety are developed, manufactured and delivered
  • Provide Safety leadership to the ED&T department and customers
  • Develop guidelines, checkpoint review checklists and templates to ensure consistency of execution
  • Make safety compliance decisions, within the boundaries of authority and in a timely manner, based on engineering principles, inspection/testing reports, and experimental data
  • Participate in the development of prime level safety requirements with customers

 

Position Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in a technical field
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Engineering.
  • Experience in conducting MIL-STD-882 Safety Analyses and Safety Program Implementation
  • Experience in working within the Joint Services – Software Safety Authorities Implementation Guide (JS-SSA-IG) and the Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSEH)
  • Must be a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
  • Previous experience in a Safety Engineering capacity
  • Familiarity with the Systems Engineering process
  • Familiarity with Software Development
  • Superior communication, organization and prioritization skills
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills
  • Ability to travel (10% Cdn) and (10% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
  • Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Restrictions for confined space
  • Must be able to acquire a Level II (Secret) Security Clearance           

Preferred Qualifications:

  • P. Eng
  • Certification to ISO 26262
  • Advanced Engineering degree
  • LAV product knowledge
