Why this Role Matters
This role supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our production equipment and facility by installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and automation components.
It plays a key part in minimizing downtime, improving equipment performance, and ensuring our teams have the technical support needed to maintain smooth operations.
As an Electrical Apprentice, you will apply your developing technical expertise across PLCs, drives, electrical systems, and production equipment. Your ability to troubleshoot issues, perform preventative and predictive maintenance, and uphold safety and quality standards will directly contribute to the continued success of our manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Be Accountable For:
Automation & Control Systems:
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Rexroth, Siemens), logic controllers, variable-speed drives, and servo drives.
- Complete PLC programming and assist with control system adjustments.
- Support HMI and networked system functions, ensuring proper operation.
Electrical Installation, Maintenance & Repairs:
- Install electrical components for new equipment and production lines.
- Modify and design electrical schematics.
- Inspect systems for damage, malfunctions, or safety hazards.
- Ensure all electrical work meets applicable electrical codes and safety standards.
Preventitive & Predictive Maintenances:
- Perform and assist with preventative and predictive maintenance on printing, cutting, gluing, and other production equipment.
- Document labour and parts through the computerized maintenance system.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work with other trades and contractors to complete project assignments.
- Communicate daily repair activities to department leaders and discuss required solutions.
Standards, Safety & Other Duties:
- Follow all requirements of the JHG Quality Management System.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety and Environmental (ISO 14001) policies and procedures.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by the direct leader.
What you’ll bring
- Enrollment in, or eligibility to enroll in, an Ontario Industrial Electrician (442A) apprenticeship program.
- Knowledge of PLCs, servo drives, variable-speed drives, electrical schematics, and power distribution systems.
- Familiarity with HMI programming and networks such as Ethernet/IP, DH+, RIO, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus2, and RS232.
- Experience with robotics (ABB, Fanuc, Kuka, Motoman) is an asset.
- Ability to work at heights and in enclosed spaces.
- Experience in a manufacturing or printing/packaging environment is an asset.
- Lean manufacturing knowledge is an asset.
