Senior Manager, Quality Assurance


Introduction:
The Senior Manager, Quality will be responsible for implementation of and maintaining the quality program across site(s) and oversee all systems, processes, and initiatives pertaining to quality management. The successful candidate would be a proven leader with a demonstrated history of creating and implementing quality processes, and managing quality functions in a fast-paced environment. This role requires evaluating and driving improvement upon quality related processes, including but not limited to: implementing quality procedures pertaining to new products and processes, identifying and closing quality related process gaps, developing and reporting on KPIs to provide representative insights into the quality program, providing quality oversight to critical quality events such as CAPAs and making risk-based decisions, and driving a quality culture across the organization. The Senior Manager - Quality will ensure that all processes adhere to Good Production Practices. The extraction facility is located in Aylmer, Ontario.

Position Overview:
  • Serve as subject matter expert for all quality requirements in the manufacturing of cannabis products
  • Implement and maintain quality management system across two sites
  • Identify gaps both intra and inter-departmental and create systems/processes to ensure control, compliance, and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure control, compliance, standardization, and overall integrity of Quality Systems as it pertains to all applicable standards and regulations (i.e. GPP, Cannabis Act, etc.)
  • Ensure all production, processing, packaging and labelling activities are conducted according to applicable legislation
  • Participate in audits, qualification, and management of vendors and co-manufacturers
  • Ensure all production, processing, packaging and labelling activities are carried out according to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Provide guidance and apply critical thinking to employ risk-based decision making and strategies
  • Stay current with industry trends, standards, and expectations to be able to adopt best practices
  • Manage, lead and motivate members of the Quality Department
  • Oversee complaint handling system; identifying trends and liaising with appropriate departments to address repeat occurrences
  • Initiate corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) and conduct investigations to address non-conformances, out of specification results, and ongoing/trending deviations, as needed
  • Maintain and execute responsibilities within the Quality budget
  • Review and execute on quality agreements with third party partners
  • Act as lead for on-site audits/inspections conducted by external authorities
  • Ensure the quality organization is fit for purpose through measuring quality KPIs and employing continuous improvement strategies
  • Lead Weekly Quality Meeting to present KPIs, trends, and quality issues to Senior Leadership Team
  • Evaluate impact of change requests to product quality and quality management systems
  • Partner with other functional areas to establish and foster a quality culture across the organization
  • Create a strong partnership with key functional areas, specifically with Operations, Supply Chain, Business Development
  • Provide leadership, technical direction, and coaching to direct and indirect reports
  • Ensure that all staff are adhering to facility SOPs and GPP at all times
  • Other job duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in science or a related discipline
  • QAP designation with Security Clearance from Health Canada
  • Knowledge of the Cannabis Act, GPP, and GMP
  • Experience with C15 Quality Management System
  • Regulatory Affairs and Quality Operations Certificate
  • Experience working in a high growth environment/start up experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in Quality Assurance in a GMP environment, pharmaceutical and/or food and beverage industry
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in Quality Assurance in the cannabis industry, in a Management role
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a QAP
  • Proven ability to develop and build high performing teams and strong cross-functional stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to coach and develop employees to build a strong organization
  • Experience with Quality Systems: Change Control, Deviation, CAPA, Document Control
  • Ability to prepare and present reports to management pertaining to non-conformances and investigations
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and collaborate with a cross-functional project team
  • Must have proven ability to lead and influence others, make decisions, facilitate change, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with attention to detail for successfully satisfying diverse responsibilities
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with employees and management at all levels
  • Must have an open work permit to work in Canada, be a permanent resident or have Canadian citizenship ONLY please


WORKING CONDITIONS (ON SITE):
This role is performed on site at our production facility in Aylmer, Ontario and Motif provides all required PPE and has continued manufacturing safety protocols: a well-fitted mask must be worn at all times while inside our production areas and staff are to remain 2M+ apart unless otherwise communicated.
