We are currently looking for a team-oriented full-time Controller to join our team.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the President, the Controller will lead the accounting and finance functions; including the preparation of financial statements as well as summaries and forecasts, operational support, financial analysis, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting and month/quarter/year end closings. Provide best practice leadership to the division as well as continuous improvement of the accounting function. Develop consolidated financial structure and reporting for the Company. The Controller will partner with finance team members and be a trusted advisor on financial and accounting practices.

The responsibilities for the Controller will include:

  • Participate in strategic planning activities.
  • Responsible for month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings and preparation of financial statements.
  • Prepare accurate forecasts, projections, budgets and corporate reporting.
  • Monitor and provide financial analysis/reports on working capital and fixed assets.
  • Support various areas of the organization with continuous evaluation and strategic improvement through benchmarking and best practices.
  • Coordinate with external tax professionals to prepare year-end related tax filings.
  • Provide expertise in financial analysis, including pricing, costing, budgeting/forecasting, operating matrices, strategic opportunities, projects to facilitate and improve management's financial decisions.
  • Provide financial reports and analysis and participate in making presentations to internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare GAAP and management accounting statements.
  • Complete special projects, monthly reports and analysis as assigned.
  • Ensures appropriate internal controls are in place and will recommend, implement and maintain those internal controls.
  • Identify corporate risks and make recommendations and drive implementation of policies to manage such risks.
  • Management of credit risk.
  • Recommend and drive implementation of policies and procedures to improve cost control.
  • Support as needed for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Drive the annual budget process.
  • Drive weekly cash flow forecast and annual financial forecast

Education, Skills and Job Requirements:

  • Track record of achievement in progressively more senior financial roles.
  • Knowledge and experience with GAAP, cost accounting and ERP (E2 ShopTec Job cost software).
  • Experience with IFRS is an asset.
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing accounting with at least 3 years of experience in a plant environment.
  • Knowledge of external auditing processes and demonstrated successful responsibility managing this process.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Balanced, firm but fair negotiator.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence in financial sensitive information and demonstrates a high level of integrity.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of advanced Excel skills, (or any other database query reporting tool).
  • Proven ability to upgrade and implement accounting systems, experience with ERP implementation is preferable.
  • Highly comfortable and experienced working with standard costing and/or job costing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Action-oriented, hard-working and self-confident. Strong work ethic is required.
  • Adept at collaborative consultation while also prepared to act with conviction. Unafraid to challenge the status quo and recommend new approaches.
  • Adept team builder and motivational leader with the ability to hire, assess and develop employees.
  • Desire to work closely with operations to develop and monitor plant KPI's.
  • Ability to interact effectively with management, plant personnel, auditors, and various finance personnel at other facilities
