Job Description
Machinist / Tool & Die Maker- London, ON
C&M Machine Works is looking for a Machinist or Tool and Die maker in our turning and custom/prototype machining operations. Candidates must be able to setup and operate lathes, being able to make a number of different geometries/parts in a wide variety of materials.
This is a full-time position reporting to the engineering manager with straight days scheduling with overtime available.
Qualification/experience:
- Must have minimum 5 years experience
- Must have basic math skills to calculate depths of cut, speeds, and feeds
- Past experience showing a strong comfort level working in a manual, hands-on machining environment will be an asset
- CNC (or conversational programming on hybrid machines) experience will be an asset
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Specifics
- Operate and maintain a variety of conventional machine tools, e.g. engine lathes, sawing machines
- Utilize different verification tools including calipers, micrometers, bore and height gauges, sizing blocks and/or gauges
- Ensure machining operations are efficient as well as proper work holding selection, cutting parameters (speed and feed rates), and any other factors affecting the efficiency of the material removal process
Job Specifics
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blue print designs and work instructions in order to setup, and operate milling machines and/or lathes to produce tight tolerance parts to specifications
- Compute dimensions and tolerances, measure and lay out work pieces to ensure machining activities result in products conforming to all customer specific requirements outlined in drawings and work instructions issued
- Select cutting tools, toolpaths, feeds, speeds, and other cutting parameters which maximize efficiency of the machining operation
- Operate and set up machines to perform repetitive machining operations, including drilling, milling, grinding, turning, boring
- Ensure product defects are identified and reported to your manager or quality department promptly
