Stress Engineer - Intermediate

The Stress Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for aircraft
development, aircraft certification projects and production support. These
activities may include structural analysis, involvement in designs concept
development, external loads development starting from existing
methodologies, participation in product design reviews, creation of test plans,
test reports, certification plans, compliance reports and other certification
related documents.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the stress engineering team and work closely with the senior specialists and mentor junior stress engineers as required.
  • Participate in activities related to changes to the aircraft design and/or manufacturing processes and make recommendations to improve structural design quality, safety, performance, and the overall customer experience
  • Initiate and/or participate in type design changes through the creation of engineering change requests and assisting in change classification by following the Part 23 regulations and the company’s approved processes.
  • Develop certification plans, structural test plans, structural test reports to support the certification process related to proposed type design changes to Diamond’s Canadian type design aircraft
  • Coordinate and perform ground and flight testing, perform analysis, and/or generate design reviews to substantiate compliance to relevant Part 23 aviation regulations
  • Generate all necessary test and compliance reports to demonstrate that compliance to the relevant aviation regulations (Part 23) has been shown
  • Seek certification of type design changes through coordination with TCCA, Delegates, or Diamond AP’s as necessary and assist in validations with foreign authorities
  • Develop standards and specifications for relevant engineering activities
  • Support Airworthiness activities such as service bulletins and investigations
  • Perform other related duties including ongoing production support through the disposition of non-conformances and support of other engineering groups as assigned

Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Aerospace and/or Structural Engineering
  • 8 years Engineering experience (5 years relevant Aerospace Engineering)
  • Knowledge of Part 23 / Part 25 certification regulations
  • Experience with analytical stress methods. Mathcad experience an asset
  • Experience with full structural analysis cycle including loads, finite element pre and post processing and testing
  •  Expertise with Femap, NX Nastran or Patran, MSC Nastran, HyperWorks an asset.
  •  Experience with certification testing of composite materials
  •  Experience with CATIA V5. AutoCAD / DraftSight or Solid Edge an asset
  •  Proficiency in MS Office products and collaboration tools
  •  Previous or current delegation experience with a civil aviation authority is an asset
  • Previous MRB authority is considered an asset
  • Professional Engineering License is also an asset
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Capable of independent decision making
  • Works well within a team environment
  • Able to prioritize tasks based on company needs
