Job Summary:

  • The Category Development Manager plays a critical role to bridge business strategies and priorities with USAC Account sales dynamics to drive profitable volume growth.
  • Responsible for execution of the USAC operating plan within US and Canada to deliver both top and bottom-line attainment.
  • Works closely with Area Portfolio Leader, global business team, supply chain and sales organizations to execute comprehensive category and channel management strategies that generate value for 3M and our retail partners, while driving business priorities and strategies.
  • Effectively analyzes input from key retailers, demand planners, and point of sale data systems to coordinate and execute against sales objectives, improving forecast accuracy and ultimately service to our customers.

As a Category Development Manager??, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Serve as the primary conduit between US and Canadian accounts, supply chain, shopper and portfolio teams
  • Execute channel strategy to drive profitable volume growth and advance business priorities (portfolio, pricing, promotion, placement)
  • Manage price, portfolio, product, and promotions across defined channels and accounts within established guidelines
  • Ensure alignment of Area Marketing plans (new products, seasonal promotions, advertising) to customer calendars on a rolling 12-month planning cycle
  • Analyze effectiveness of in-market programs/strategies and report results to stakeholders
  • Synthesize and analyze data to drive simple and concise sales stories to accelerate growth
  • Collaborate with APL, Manufacturing and supply chain to deliver excellent customer service and improve our Integrated Business Planning (IBP) Process
  • Monitor and syndicate marketplace and competitive activity to help shape USAC Strategy
  • Significant Contributor to Improve our Dead and Excess inventory positions to maximize turns
  • Solicits, Compiles, and Organizes in depth marketplace retail price shops quarterly
  • Attends weekly PPC Meetings for both open stock and displays
  • Participates with bulk forecasting to ensure flawless display execution
  • Assists in monthly rolling estimates, demand planning and POS analytics
  • Collaborate with marketers to develop compelling selling material (sales broadcasts, line reviews, launch kits, etc.)    

 

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Five (5) years of sales, marketing, or category management experience

 

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Three (3) years of experience in consumer packaged goods industry
  • Two (2) years of experience managing a National Key Account Business or Category Development
  • Two (2) years of experience working with Canada National Key Accounts
  • Proficient at Numerator, Power BI, Syndicated Data
  • Proficient communicator who can generate buy-in cross-functionally to solve complex challenges
  • Persuasive speaker/presenter comfortable with demanding situations and delicate subject matter
  • Skilled Storyteller – Leveraging Data, Insights, Marketing Materials, etc. to gain stakeholder commitment and credibility with our channel partners
  • Strong Work Ethic. Self-Starter and positive competitive mindset
  • Independent and strategic thinker able to make difficult business decisions
  • Energized by a fast paced, challenging work environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Power Point

 

Location: 3M Center. Maplewood, MN or 3M Canada

Territory: United States & Canada

Travel: May include up to 50%

Relocation: Is May Be authorized within country per 3M relocation policy.
