Mechanical Designer - Automation
Job Summary:
The Automation Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and refining mechanical systems and components used in automated machinery and production equipment. This role requires a solid understanding of mechanical principles, CAD modelling, and integration of mechanical components with electrical and control systems. The Automation Designer will collaborate closely with project managers, control specialists, and fabricators to deliver efficient, reliable, and cost-effective automation solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Design and model mechanical components and assemblies for automation systems using CAD software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD).
- Develop 2D and 3D drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and quality standards.
- Support the prototyping, testing, and refinement of automation systems.
- Work closely with other teams to debug, integrate, and resolve issues, ensuring timely completion of systems.
- Modify existing designs to improve functionality, reduce costs, or accommodate new requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Experience:
- Specialized courses in drafting, design, and engineering practices.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in an automation or industrial machinery environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software.
- Must demonstrate a strong ability to conceptualize and create solutions for complex design requirements.
- Experience with automation equipment, robotics, and motion control systems is a strong asset.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
