Tooling Specialist
 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Tooling Specialist reports to the Tooling Supervisor and has overall responsibility for plant tooling purchases. Controls tooling costs by tracking, maintaining, updating the spare tooling and tool crib inventory within budget parameters, increasing tooling interchangeability through the creation and maintenance of MTP London die specifications while generating tooling cost savers initiated through hands-on experience in troubleshooting tooling issues.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Serve in the capacity as Customer Representative for tooling vendors
  • MRO indirect procurement of all spare tooling, repairable and serviceable details for die modifications and perishable spare inventory
  • Acquire tooling estimates for cost savings for budget and timing objectives
  • Generate purchase orders for tooling, track and follow up with vendors to ensure part quality and timelines are met
  • Manage and organize perishable tooling crib for all spare tooling components
  • Maintain, update, and report out on perishable tooling inventory levels using an online inventory program
  • Participate in the morning production meetings and report any tooling updates
  • Track toolroom metrics and report out in monthly goals and objectives meeting
  • Identify and implement cost saving design changes, repair standards and improvements to existing tooling while working with Engineering, Quality and Tooling Teams
  • Provide problem identification and resolution for potential process failure and functional performance of spare tooling
  • Remain current with emerging technologies and process through vendor engagement and continuing education in relevant fields of machining processes, metallurgy and coatings
  • Provide backup for the Tooling Supervisor in their absence

  • Participate in company programs including G&O, 5S, Kaizen, meetings, training, etc.
  • Conduct all work activities in a professional manner that is supportive of a team effort

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, or their designate

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Post-secondary degree / diploma or equivalent experience
  • Recognized Tool & Die Maker Certificate of Qualification
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude for problem solving
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, metal tooling, stamping and manufacturing processes
  • Possess working knowledge of ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14000 and Q1 Compliance Criteria
  • Achieve results / targets through others who are not direct reports
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints with the use of AutoCAD or 3D viewer software
  • Excellent attendance and willing to work overtime when required
  • Good communication, problem solving, organization and planning skills
  • Self-motivated, team player and able to work under minimal supervision

WHAT ELSE YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW

  • Work may require extended periods of sitting, standing, lifting, bending, stooping and performing repetitive motion tasks. Excellent manual dexterity, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds infrequently
  • Usage of a computer and other productivity machinery such as a SAP hand held scanner and control panels
