Reporting to the Controller, the Cost Accountant will play an integral role in the Defence and Machining Business unit accounting and finance functions; As The Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for reconciling inventory and tracking capital in process accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting. You will partner with finance team members as well as the materials group to be a trusted advisor on inventory movement, item standards and capital transactions.

Responsibilities:
- Execute product costing and inventory valuations
- Prepare and review standards on inventory items in the system
- Manage inventory values on Bill of Materials for production parts
- Perform inventory cost roles regularly to keep system information up to date
- Determine methods for recording inventory transactions such as adjustments and cycle counts and advise materials group when necessary
- Reconcile Inventory accounts to sub ledgers on a regular basis
- Prepare month end balance sheet reconciliation for any inventory related accounts
- Process product coting on production order settlements and analyses variances
- Participate in Physical Inventory Counts as the key member of financial for support and reporting
- Monitor and track the cost of newly-acquired fixed assets
- Track the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts and componentize and close out those accounts once the related projects have been complete
- Report capital project spending and project competition to corporate office on a monthly basis.
- Track expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to budget and management authorization
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year experience.
- CPA an asset, but must be working towards obtaining CPA
- Knowledge and experience with cost accounting and ERP, preferably Microsoft Dynamics.
- Experience with standard inventory accounting.
- Solid knowledge of accounting with experience in a plant environment being an asset.
- Knowledge of external auditing processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidence in financial sensitive information, and demonstrates a high level of integrity.
- Demonstrable knowledge of advanced Excel skills, working knowledge of Atlas an asset (or any other database query reporting tool).
- Action-oriented, hard-working and self-confident. Strong work ethic is required
