Chief Financial Officer

We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who is aspiring to reach their potential in business. Reporting to and partnering with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO will play a critical role in developing and implementing the financial strategy of the John Aarts Group. The CFO will provide leadership for all financial and administrative services of John Aarts Group to support the continuous improvement of processes and resulting success, at an especially valuable time when we implement an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) for the next generation of John Aarts Group ownership. 

 

Environment 

As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will be an advisor to the Executives and Group Vice Presidents, evaluating and assisting them with their financial plans and economic modeling. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization. The CFO will lead the Business Intelligence team, fostering an environment where team members can reach their full potential. 

How you will make an IMPACT 

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive that aligns with multi-year objectives and long-term vision 
  • Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, tax planning, and conservation of assets 
  • Oversee the creation, consolidation, and review of annual budgets and financial objectives across business units 
  • Lead the strength of existing intermediate managers comprising of Controller, Manager Financial Analysis and Planning and Accounts Payable and Receivable Manager 
  • Conduct monthly financial scorecard reviews with business unit leaders, providing expert analysis, advice, and recommendations 
  • Prepare detailed quarterly and annual financial reporting for the CEO and Board 
  • Manage high-level interactions with financial institutions, auditors, and corporate legal entities 
  • Develop corporate tax planning strategies and oversee financial risk management 
  • Maintain and update knowledge in finance, banking, administration, and data analytics 
  • Support major expenditure approvals through a stage gate process 
  • Manage shareholder dividends, loan repayments, and share management 
  • Assist the CEO in long-term ownership and investment strategies, including mergers, acquisitions, ESOP’s and board expansions 

 

Limits of Authority 

  • Adherence to specific protocols for cheque signing and digital banking 
  • Obtaining necessary approvals for non-budgeted expenses and capital expenditures 
  • Requirement for CEO and Board approval for significant changes in systems or third-party relationships 

 

How you WOW us 

 

  • 10-15 years' experience in finance related position, with proven experience as a CFO or similar financial role 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or similar discipline. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred 
  • CPA considered an asset 
  • Strong background in financial management, strategic planning, and team leadership 
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills 
  • Familiarity with construction industry financial practices is advantageous 
  • Strong commitment to ethical financial practices and corporate governance 
  • Demonstrate the traits of Wholehearted Leadership™  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP Systems 
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
