Job Description

Machinist-Assembler

Givens Engineering is a manufacturer of cranes, manipulators, and other material-handling machinery located on Veterans Parkway in London. We have a sister company in Perrysburg, Ohio, Givens Lifting Systems, which you may have to visit from time to time, once the border reopens. We're looking for an experienced machinist or tool and die specialist who can also assemble machinery.

Currently, we have as many CNC machines as Accurite-controlled small mills. Experience programming and working with CNC equipment and with conventional smaller mills would be essential.

Much of our machinery is pneumatically controlled and we would train you thoroughly in pneumatics. The machinery can range from simple to extremely complex, and you would be encouraged to work your way up.

We value a long-term relationship that will continue for years, starting with extensive training and gradually working toward increasingly challenging projects.

Work is usually straight days with weekends off, but weekend work and overtime occur frequently. Because our workload varies constantly, overloads are handled with overtime. Sometimes you would also be expected to install the equipment you build, which often happens on weekends and usually involves travel within Ontario.

Health and Dental Benefits package is available after 3 months; a pension plan begins after 1 year.

We manufacture everything we sell right here in our large London shop. We employ engineers, technologists, welders, electricians, machinists and accounting and sales staff. We're Canada's largest manufacturer of manipulators and the largest manufacturers of light cranes in Canada.

  • Experience with both CNC machines and conventional machines would be essential
  • Ability to understand drawings would be essential
  • Ability to read and understand measurements, as well as use various measuring tools would be essential
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds would be helpful
  • When assembling machinery, you would take charge of keeping track of the flow of parts through the shop
