Purpose

Reporting to the Manager of Core Technology, the incumbent will be an established engineering professional with a proven track record in technology and process development and solid knowledge of magnesium high pressure die casting. This position is primarily responsible for the development of technologies in magnesium foundry process and equipment, molten metal handling, high purity magnesium purification, and magnesium casting quality evaluation. Secondary responsibilities will focus on leveraging and transferring technology across Meridian organizations globally. Other duties will include technical support for Meridian operations as well as business development initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Grow core competencies and technological know-how in terms of magnesium foundry and casting processes.

• Develop new alloy compositions, new technologies in metal melting, melt transfer and new manufacturing processes for magnesium and magnesium alloys.

• Standardize and document Meridian best-practice across Meridian global operations.

• Support program launch activities through product quality analyses, product testing activities.

• Provide engineering expertise and resources and ensure a consistent application of best product practices.

• Support research and development activities related to business development and product growth strategy.

• Co-ordination of technology development to be undertaken by the Global Technical Centre (GTC) and the plants.

• Improve safety and environmental performance on an ongoing basis.

• Provide general technical support to GTC and Plants.

• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Skills/Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering (> 5 years related experience) or equivalent (>15 years related experience) – Essential

• 3-5 years Engineering/Manufacturing/Business experience in the automotive industry - Desirable

• Masters / Ph.D in Engineering with 3 years’ experience in magnesium casting metallurgy - Desirable

• P.Eng designation - Desirable

• Microsoft Office Professional

• Technical Report Writing / Publications

• Corrosion testing and screening techniques

• Metallurgical and materials testing

• Records/Information Management

• Time/Priority Management

• Problem Solving Skills

• Failure Analysis Techniques

• Project Management

• IATF Processes and Procedures
