Microbiology Lab Technician - Co-Op
 

A & L Canada Laboratories Inc. (A & L) is one of Canada’s largest Agricultural and Environmental laboratories specializing in soil, plant tissue, fertilizer, food, and water testing. A & L provides reliable, comprehensive, and effective services for analytical testing. Our Environmental division provides inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, general chemistry, microbiology, and pesticide analysis using state of the art technology and methodology.

Our microbiology laboratory is currently seeking a new team member. The successful candidate will be hardworking, team focused with a positive attitude who can work in a fast-paced environment. The Microbiology Technician conducts microbiological tests on a variety of sample types including food raw materials and finished products, cannabis related products, water, swabs, and environmental samples such as composts etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Medium preparation, sample setup, result reading, data input, glassware and waste cleaning

· Aseptically performs sampling, plating, and testing of samples daily for microbiological tests

· Identifies and communicates results that require further investigation or discussion with the Team Lead.

· Assists in maintaining quality system records to comply with all accrediting agencies.

· Learns new techniques and technologies as appropriate

· Works effectively with other staff

· Maintains a clean and orderly environment.

Qualifications:

· Currently enrolled in a college or university program in a related field, preferably in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science or related sciences

· Knowledge of the scientific principles/practices applicable to test protocols/procedures/methods and analytical systems/equipment

· Knowledge of the methods for isolation, identification and enumeration of foodborne and environmental bacterial pathogens.

· Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet quick turnaround times and deadlines

· Practical experience in aseptic laboratory techniques and media preparation.

· Proven ability to perform basic microbiology laboratory techniques.

· Excellent organizational skills.
