The Opportunity

 

The Compliance Engineer will support the testing and compliance to successfully develop products and deliver technologically advanced, multi-product solutions that provide long-term value for the Company across its entire business. We develop domestic electric heaters and electric fireplaces, and this position is responsible for the testing, validation and product safety compliance.
 

The Compliance Engineer is responsible for analyzing, testing, and validating Dimplex’s products to ensure that all safety standards and product performances are met or exceeded. This will include coordinating standardized testing of new product prototypes to verify safety and reliability. This role will work collaboratively with colleagues in Product Management, Marketing, Quality, Program Management, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to plan and execute projects, continually enhancing the development processes of the Company.


In this role you will: 

 

  • Operate and maintain laboratory.
  • Conduct testing to ensure that all Dimplex products meet or exceed safety requirements.
  • Establish validation standards, develop testing protocols, and prepare equipment; document test results and maintain detailed records for analysis.
  • Lead all validation projects with 3rd party certifying bodies; contribute to the development of new projects.
  • Perform root cause analysis of product quality issues; recommend solutions and actively leads the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Document and manage projects timing, key deliverables, and other necessary information, providing progress reports as required.
  • Liaise with all relevant organizational departments to provide expertise in standard interpretations and applications.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with 3rd party certifying Engineers (e.g., UL and CSA).
  • Provide recommendations for improvement on the design of new products, existing products, or services.
  • Act as a technical expert in the application of 3rd party standards.
  • Provide cross functional training as required, on the correct use of safety lab equipment, safety, industry standards and product performances, ensuring that colleagues follow industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including maintaining testing equipment and overseeing the inventory of validation supplies.
  • Support product development being the in-house standards expert
     

What You Need

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Compliance Engineering, Technical Testing, Product Safety or related role.
  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering or a related technical field. (Preferred Electrical or electronics).
  • Experience with continuous improvement, including Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
  • Professional accreditation, certifications or licenses as appropriate to the industry considered to be an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to develop relationships with vendors and sub-contractors.
  • Excellent reasoning and analytical skills with the ability to anticipate and define problems, collect data, establish facts, distinguish trends, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proactive; takes initiative to prevent issues and has a bias towards action.
  • Intermediate user of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • High degree of integrity and a demonstrated ability to build relationships while still having the ability to hold them accountable.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
