Who We’re Looking For:

An Engineering Lead is highly motivated, organized and knowledgeable individual willing to contribute their experience and expertise to our team, specifically in leading a team of design professionals in the design of fire protection systems. The Engineering Lead will be located in our London, Ontario office.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As an Engineering Lead, your responsibilities would include but would not be limited to the following:

  • Manage a team of designers and ensure projects are being completed efficiently and successfully per company standard operating procedures;
  • Review all projects assigned by the Design Manager and identify any information gaps;
  • Initiate pre-design site surveys, fire hydrant flow tests, and client document requests to fill the identified information gaps;
  • Plan and coordinate team resources to meet design deliverable timelines and schedules;
  • Provide technical support, value-added design evaluation, mentorship, and continual developmental coaching to members of the assigned design team;
  • Design fire protection systems following local codes, project documents, and company standards. Develop system drawings and calculations, and communicate project status to project stakeholders as required;
  • Review and seal completed design documents;
  • Conduct regular “rough-in” inspections of fire protection systems during their installation;
  • Conduct “final” inspections of completed fire protection systems in preparation for occupancy;
  • Review site inspection reports to evaluate and ensure conformance with all local codes, approved drawings, project specifications, and contract documents;
  • Work closely with all stakeholders, including the NSD team, sprinkler contractors, general contractors, architects, consultants, building owners, local building officials and fire inspectors to ensure the continued success of all assigned projects;
  • Participate in weekly leadership planning meetings to coordinate and meet project deadlines;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Design Manager.

What You’ll Need In Your Toolkit:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (fire protection, mechanical or construction);
  • Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (P.Eng.) is a must
  • Experience in the construction industry;
  • Experience in a management or supervisory role;
  • Ability to read and interpret codes, technical specifications, and building construction drawings including fire protection, architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to travel to job sites throughout Southern Ontario;
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook);
  • Experience in the fire protection industry is an asset;
  • Working knowledge of the following codes is an asset: OBC, NBC, NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14 & 20;
  • Experience with HydraCAD, HydraCALC and/or Revit are assets;
  • Detail-oriented with great organizational skills and work ethic;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to clearly communicate, in writing and verbally, with all project stakeholders; and
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet project deadlines and problem solve efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
