Key Job Elements:
- Provide support to design teams in the development and qualification of welded structures
- Develop, optimize, and qualify weld procedures in accordance with industrial codes
- Perform damage assessment on welded structures, develop repair plans and support repair procedures
- Lead planning, execution and reporting activities
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction in welded structures
- Assist with bidding and proposal activities
- Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations into weld related problems
- Provide weld expertise across the business, including with suppliers and customers
- Independently identify, propose, and lead continuous improvement initiatives related welded structures and procedures
Required Qualifications:
- University degree, College Diploma or demonstrated skills in relevant engineering discipline
- Familiarity with North American welding codes and specifications
- Applied knowledge of welding processes (GMAW, GRAW, Friction Stir Welding, etc.) and associated weld materials
- Ability to perform weld size and strength calculations
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
- Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Restrictions for confined space
- Ability to obtain Level 2 (Secret) security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in weld engineering or related technical program
- 3-5 years’ experience in mechanical/welding designs of metallic components/structures
- Hands on welding experience or current welders' certification
- Knowledgeable in Siemens NX environment
- Experience in a Unionized environment
