Cost Accountant

Location: Strathroy, ON.

Purpose

Reporting to Controller, the incumbent is responsible to provide financial support and advice to the Plant Controller, Plant General Manager and Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Plant Teams, as required. Be the subject matter expert on all cost/inventory related transactions for the MPD Facility.

Responsibilities

• Accounting functions: Complete understanding of SCAR and how it relates to costing of inventory and related relationship with the financial statements. Understand the part cost structure, how Engineering’s role impacts the financial output of SCAR. Analysis of costing down to lowest level (Equipment) in order to properly allocate costs to work-centers.

• ERP: Understand how the part cost structure works and how it relates to gross profit, cost of goods sold and overall profitability. Be the subject matter expert on SCAR and all related inventory transactions. Be able to update standard cost items.

• Lean: Responsible assisting the Lean/CI teams.

• Reporting: Responsible for analysis & reporting relating to above responsibilities. Prepare financial statements, schedules & government reports. Fulfill audit requirements and corporate reporting requests. Responsible for month end variance analysis on cost of goods sold and inventory accounts.

• Communication: Internal / External Contacts: Liaison with internal/external employees, managers, auditors (and completing their requests), outside customers, corporate officers, other companies. Facilitating communication, change, and progress.

• Goal Setting: Prioritizing activities to ensure timely, accurate completion of tasks necessary to fulfill team and company goals.

• Training: Ensuring that adequate training (accounting systems & policies) and tools to complete the job are provided.

• Other responsibilities as required, including special projects as they arise.

Skills/Experience/Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business - Essential

• Progressive accounting experience, minimum of 3 years. - Essential

• CPA designation or international equivalent. - Desirable (Must be working towards at a minimum)

• Experience with cost accounting processes is essential

• Understanding of process flows and mapping in order to properly allocate costs is essential

• Experience in working directly with manufacturing personnel is essential

• Ability to cope with multiple priorities, set direction and achieve goals.

• Act independently, with a sense of urgency, and the confidence to handle a variety of challenges and fast paced environment.

• Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written.

• Proven interpersonal, written, negotiation, team problem solving, organizational time management and verbal skills.

• Knowledge of accounting procedures and regulations essential.

• Must have strong computer knowledge.

• Knowledge and adherence to relevant procedures and legislation.

• Experience with Continuous Improvement projects and tracking
